Open Letter to Gov. Reynolds
Dear Gov. Reynolds,
I recognize tax reform is a top priority for you and the legislature and I want to point out that this is the perfect time to fund the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund with a 3/8 cent sales tax increase and without any changes to the Fund's existing formula.
As you know, Iowa's voters chose to change the constitution in 2010 to create the fund with that formula in place. Since then, support for funding it (again, with the current formula in tact) has only increased with the majority of Iowans from both ends of the political spectrum stating they support a sales tax increase to fund the Trust now.
You have a perfect opportunity here to heed the will of Iowans by tying this funding to the overall tax law changes. Your administration, already unique to history, could be the one that future generations look back on with reverence on account of the clean water, abundant wildlife, and great parks and trails they get to enjoy because YOU were bold enough to do what Iowans have been asking the legislature to do for eight years now.
Let's do this! Fund the Trust!
